San Miguel de Allende Favorites

May 24, 2023

HI! I’m Molly.

Here to encourage you on your own bold pursuit of intentional living as I live out my own. I’m passionate about running, spending time doing what I love and cheering others on to approach running with joy.

We recently took a trip to San Miguel de Allende and I wanted to share some of my favorite spots with you all!

My husband and I recently travelled to San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico for our anniversary trip. This was my second time visiting the city and I LOVED it! It’s clean, safe, beautiful, walkable. What more could you want?! We had such a wonderful time there and for anyone thinking about visiting/has a trip planned, I wanted to share some of my favorites while there!

HOW TO GET THERE/WHERE TO STAY

It’s a fairly short flight from Texas into one of the big airports outside of San Miguel - Querretaro or Leon. We flew into Querretaro and then hired Rey to drive us into San Miguel. I’m sure you could get a taxi or an uber from there, too, but we felt safest hiring a driver ahead of time that we trusted and cannot recommend him enough!

There are a ton of great, affordable hotel options in the city. We picked this one close to the city center and thought it was a perfect location for everything we did. I will say…the wifi never worked and using my hotspot was less than stellar. Keep that in mind if you’re planning any working from the hotel moments ;) I also didn’t expect to want a pool, but we ended up hopping in the pool daily! It was such a fun bonus to have there!

FAVORITE RESTAURANTS

  • Tostevere: Our favorite! Intimate, incredibly kind staff and some of the best food we had in the city.
  • Quince: You can’t go to SMA and not come here! It has one of the best rootops and fun live entertainment some nights, too!
  • Luna: Located on top of the Rosewood hotel! The best rooftop restaurant in terms of view. It’s stunning, but food was sub-par. I 100% recommend it because the view is unbeatable!
  • La Grotta: We never went, but heard they have great pizza
  • Lavanda Cafe: A specialty coffee shop that we happened to visit three times because we loved it so much!
  • Raices: A great option for any meal, all their food looked delicious!
  • Rustica: Go for brunch! It was so crowded, which was a good sign we made the right decision. Everything was delicious!
  • Cafe Rama: This was Dom’s favorite spot! We went for breakfast and there was live jazz while there, so perfect!
  • La Favolosa: This newer spot had my favorite mocktails - they were insane! Plus, their pizza is delicious.

San Miguel is the perfect city for walking around and popping your head into all the shops. We never once paid for a taxi or uber because we walked everywhere. If you love eating good food and walking around new cities, San Miguel is perfect for you!
